An oil painting of 5 shiny red apples, 4 of which are piled into a glazed ceramic bowl sitting on a folded blue-and-white-striped cloth set on a reddish-brown wooden board. The fifth apple, just to the right of the bowl, leans towards the others.

Five Apples

Four shiny red apples fill a glazed ceramic bowl set on a folded blue-and-white-striped cloth positioned at a jaunty angle upon a wooden board. Two of the apples perch precariously against the rim, looking as if they are just about to topple – or jump – out. A fifth apple to the right of the bowl leans in amiably towards the others, as if engaging in conversation with them.

In the background, a billowy white cloth with blue shadows and faint yellow highlights floats like a cloud between the apples and the warm gray wall.
